Financial sector hacking spreads, signs of same attacker at seven firms

Hack attacks targeting South Korea\'s financial sector are spreading beyond commercial banks to savings banks and capital firms, with indications the same attacker is involved. Welcome Savings Bank reported an intrusion into a corporate customer-related system, with up to 2,200 records possibly leaked. President Lee Jae-myung ordered a thorough probe and countermeasures. Financial authorities held an emergency meeting and said related IP addresses were found across seven firms, raising the possibility of automated attacks using AI tools.

AhnLab issues account security guidelines for service operators and users

AhnLab said on Thursday it released security guidelines for users and service operators amid a string of account and personal data leaks. It recommended using different passwords for each service, enabling multi-factor authentication and regularly checking login history and security settings. The company also urged caution over suspicious links and phishing messages and called for browser password management and timely security updates. For operators, it stressed API access control and monitoring for abnormal behavior.

Gartner survey: 41 percent of CISOs experience deepfake attacks

A Gartner survey showed 41 percent of chief information security officers experienced at least one social engineering attack using deepfakes in employee voice calls over the past 12 months. The share was 36 percent for similar attacks in video calls. Gartner said AI increases the frequency, personalization and persuasiveness of social engineering attacks while reducing the reliability of traditional detection signals. It urged CISOs to strengthen training, identity and recovery controls, and detection and response.
