The government urged vigilance against smishing attacks linked to high oil price relief grants, saying such scams are expected in various forms. It cited last year’s crackdown on smishing tied to consumer coupons, which found 430 attempts including lures to illegal gambling sites and malware apps designed to steal personal data. The government, card firms and local currency operators said they will not send any URL-containing messages, banners or app push links related to the grants.

LG Uplus said on April 12 it will begin USIM updates and free replacements for all customers from April 13 to provide safer telecom services.
