Korea post office evolves into everyday safety infrastructure beyond delivery
Cases are rising of postal carriers acting as a local safety net, from helping at traffic accidents to stopping fires and preventing voice phishing losses. Korea’s Postal Service said carriers’ roles are expanding beyond reporting incidents to early response and support for elderly and isolated households. It has institutionalised regular home visits through a welfare parcel programme and piloted cash delivery of local subsidies for older residents.

Park In-hwan encourages postman who saved citizen during mail delivery
Park In-hwan (박인환), head of Korea’s Postal Service, visited the Seoul Gangnam Post Office on March 18 to praise and encourage postman Yoo Sang-beom (유상범) for rescuing a citizen who lost consciousness in a traffic accident while delivering mail. Park said he was proud that Yoo protected a valuable life at a dangerous scene and said postmen serve as guardians across society. He added thanks to all postmen working in the field.

Postman saves unconscious driver and helps ease traffic jam
A postal worker delivering mail in Seoul saved a driver who lost consciousness after a traffic accident and also helped manage traffic during the morning rush, the Postal Service said on March 17. Yoo Sang-beom, a Gangnam Post Office postman, witnessed a collision near Hakyeoul Station on March 12 and followed a vehicle he found suspicious. He called 119, helped the driver breathe comfortably and directed traffic until police arrived.
