AI makes up 95 percent of China\'s short-form dramas, raising job pressure on actors and crews
AI is rapidly replacing actors and production staff in China’s short-form content market, with most popular Douyin animations and dramas now AI-made and production times cut to 1 to 2 days. DataEye counted 89 AI-made titles among Douyin’s top 100 in May 2026, while more than 95 percent of short-form dramas released in China in the first quarter were AI-generated. Industry workers report fewer jobs and lower pay as AI replicas emerge.

ByteDance unveils Seedance 2.5 AI video generation model for up to 30-second clips
ByteDance, the Chinese technology company that operates TikTok, unveiled its new AI video generation model Seedance 2.5 at a conference in Beijing on June 23. The upgraded model can generate videos up to 30 seconds long and allows users to include up to 50 reference files such as images, video and audio, up from 12 in Seedance 2.0. ByteDance plans to launch Seedance 2.5 in China in July.
