Korea’s three telecom operators are stepping up efforts to apply their in-house capabilities to AI data centres as competition shifts from capacity expansion to operational execution. As centres scale up, heat and power consumption rise, putting cooling efficiency, stable power supply and network connectivity at the centre of competitiveness. SK Telecom is building an AI data centre unit and developing server solutions and resource-linking architecture. KT is focusing on data centre interconnection and liquid cooling. LG Uplus is combining group technologies in cooling, power and AI-based infrastructure management.

Neocloud market shifts as SoftBank and Meta enter
The neocloud market for AI-focused cloud computing is shifting as major players enter. SoftBank Group and its telecom unit SoftBank plan to start a neocloud business next fiscal year, renting AI computing resources to U.S. companies. Meta is also stepping up plans to use its data centres for cloud services. Nvidia is expanding support for smaller cloud firms that lease its GPUs. Big cloud companies are also building forward deployed engineer teams for enterprise AI.

Schneider Electric to buy industrial AI firm Cognite for $3.1 billion
France\'s industrial automation solutions company Schneider Electric will acquire industrial AI company Cognite for $3.1 billion, SiliconANGLE reported on Monday. The move is part of an effort to strengthen its AI software and industrial data business. SiliconANGLE said the deal also shows industrial AI is changing, evolving from systems that log data and flag maintenance needs to autonomous AI that can make decisions and act.
