NH Investment & Securities halts margin trading again after two days as credit limit reached
NH Investment & Securities suspended new margin-trading purchases on March 12, just two days after resuming the service, citing exhaustion of its credit-provision limit. The brokerage said margin-trading loans will be halted from that day until further notice, while stock borrowing and lending-related short sales remain available. Under the Capital Markets Act, total credit provision by an integrated financial investment business operator must not exceed 100 percent of its equity capital.

KOSPI, KOSDAQ trigger sell-sidecar and circuit breakers
South Korean markets saw a series of trading curbs on March 9 as sell-sidecar measures and a circuit breaker were triggered, temporarily halting trading. A sell-sidecar in the main board market was activated after KOSPI 200 futures slid 6.49 percent, and a similar curb was later triggered in the KOSDAQ market. A first-stage circuit breaker followed as the KOSPI fell 8.10 percent.

Prosecutors raid Meritz Securities over suspected use of undisclosed information
South Korean prosecutors began a forced investigation into Meritz Securities’ headquarters and the office of Meritz Financial Group Vice Chairman Kim Yong-beom over allegations that executives used undisclosed material information. Investigators seized computer hard drives and documents as they examine whether insider information was illegally used during the group’s 2022 move to make affiliates wholly owned subsidiaries. Meritz Financial shares fell 5.95 percent to 101,200 won.
