KOSPI recovers 7,000 as foreigners buy 5 trillion won in four sessions
South Korea\'s KOSPI recovered the 7,000 level on Thursday, supported by foreigners’ net buying for four straight sessions and gains in heavyweight semiconductor stocks. The index rose 4.40 percent to 7,096.89. Foreign investors were net buyers of 2.14 trillion won, taking their four-session total to 5.19 trillion won. The Kosdaq climbed 5.22 percent and triggered a buy sidecar. The won strengthened against the dollar.

South Korea\'s benchmark KOSPI surged more than 5 percent early, briefly topping 7,100, but gave up most gains in the afternoon as profit-taking by institutions and individuals intensified. The index ended up 0.74 percent at 6,797.70, failing to settle above 7,000 at the close despite foreign net buying of 262.2 billion won. The Kosdaq fell 0.30 percent. The won rose to 1,478.70 per dollar.

South Korea\'s KOSPI returned above the 7,000 level for the first time in four sessions, lifted by a sharp rise in U.S. semiconductor shares and buying by foreign and institutional investors. The benchmark was up 5.68 percent at 7,130.95 as of 9:04 a.m. A buy sidecar was triggered in the main board market at 9:06 a.m., the second straight trading day, halting program buy orders for five minutes.
