U.S. Air Force pushes next-generation AI evaluation system to flag aerial refuelling mistakes
The U.S. Air Force is seeking to develop an AI system that automatically analyses pilot mistakes and risk signs during aerial refuelling. The technology would use tanker-mounted camera footage to identify procedural deviations and provide objective evaluation material after missions. It would track aircraft and refuelling boom movements using computer vision and machine learning and present results through visualised maps and timelines. Initial work targets Boeing’s KC-46 Pegasus.
