Seoul National University professor Roh Seong-hoon wins July Korea Science and Technology Award
Roh Seong-hoon (노성훈), a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Seoul National University, was selected as the July recipient of South Korea\'s Science and Technology Award, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea said on Tuesday. Roh identified how a \"chaperone regulator\" regenerates the cytoskeleton by selecting, assembling and recycling tubulin. He used cryo-electron microscopy to analyse tubulin-chaperone binding at atomic level.

MSIT to boost bio CMC capabilities, push new project with MOTIE
South Korea plans research and development and a service platform to strengthen domestic bio companies’ chemical, manufacturing and quality control (CMC) capabilities. The Ministry of Science and ICT said it is preparing a new project with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to support companies’ use of CMC services. The project aims to develop technologies needed for advanced CMC application and build a platform to provide them as services, offering one-stop support across development stages.

Samsung Electronics becomes top shareholder in U.S. Element Biosciences to bolster precision medicine technology
Samsung Electronics said on Tuesday it made a strategic investment in U.S. gene analysis equipment company Element Biosciences and became its top shareholder. Samsung invested an additional $175 million by participating in Element’s Series E round, after taking part in its Series D investment in July 2024. Samsung said the investment would help it secure key technologies in the fast-growing global precision medicine market and strengthen future growth engines.
