Fujitsu develops diamond-spin quantum computer prototype, targets high-temperature operation and scaling
Fujitsu has developed what it says is the world’s first quantum computer prototype that applies a special diamond at the core of computation. The company aims to improve the stability of quantum states and system scalability using a diamond-spin approach different from superconducting methods. Fujitsu says the method is more resistant to external noise and can make qubit connections easier, supporting expansion to larger systems and potential operation at relatively higher temperatures.

IonQ unveils sixth-generation quantum computer, targets customer deliveries in 2027 amid bitcoin security debate
IonQ unveiled its sixth-generation quantum computer, the 256-qubit Superion 256, and began taking orders, with customer deliveries planned for 2027. The company said the focus is a shift in manufacturing, integrating electronic control functions into the chip to lower costs and enable larger-scale production. IonQ said its SkyWater unit completed the first 256-qubit processor, though performance results have not been disclosed. The announcement comes amid debate over quantum computing’s potential impact on bitcoin security.

NEC halts quantum computer hardware development as commercialisation remains distant
NEC has stopped development of a working quantum computer, Japanese media reported, citing a decision to halt hardware work at the end of March. The company was said to have concluded that commercialisation remains too far off and that continuing hardware development would not be cost-effective given unresolved technical challenges and the lack of a settled approach. NEC is expected to focus on quantum computing technology development and related services rather than competing in hardware.
