MSIT to work with AMD on AI chips, help Korean NPUs expand globally
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT will cooperate with AMD to expand the domestic AI semiconductor ecosystem, including linking AMD CPUs and GPUs with Korean NPUs to build and test heterogeneous AI computing infrastructure. The ministry said it signed an MOU with AMD in San Francisco. The sides also plan cooperation in AI-based scientific research through NAIS. AMD plans to set up an AI Center of Excellence in South Korea and support university programs and joint research.

South Korea forms $9,500 billion AI alliance with global big tech, seeks 5 GW AI data centres
Major South Korean companies and global big tech firms will pursue semiconductor supply and production cooperation worth a total of $9,500 billion and build AI data centres with a combined capacity of 5 gigawatts. The Ministry of Science and ICT said it held the San Francisco AI Summit on July 24 local time with key domestic and overseas companies. It said six agreements were signed and the government will support implementation.

Saemangeum to become physical AI, robotics hub; Han PM says Hyundai Motor investment begins new direction
South Korean Prime Minister Han Sung-sook (한성숙) visited Saemangeum in North Jeolla province as her first trip to the region since taking office and discussed support for Hyundai Motor Group investment and measures to foster physical AI and robotics industries. She held a corporate meeting with tenant firms, experts, government ministries and provincial officials. The government plans to revise the Saemangeum master plan around a concrete 10-year development blueprint and set up a pan-government support system.
