Kim Jong-cheol FCC chair raises parental consent, age verification for teen social media
Kim Jong-cheol (김종철), chair of the Korea Communications Commission, raised the possibility of introducing parental consent and mandatory age verification to address excessive immersion in social media among teenagers. He said teenagers are rights holders, not just subjects for protection, but that minimum regulation is needed in the current media environment. Kim said such measures should proceed only after sufficient public discussion.
