Woori Bank leak of 17,551 personal data records during NFT platform outsourcing
Woori Bank confirmed that 17,551 customer personal data records were leaked from an external developer that worked on its NFT platform project. The bank notified customers by text message and said the leak occurred after staff at the developer mistakenly exposed data the company had stored on its own. The leaked information included user nicknames and linked identification information (CI). Woori Bank said it blocked access after learning of the leak on June 30 and has advised customers to be cautious of suspicious calls and links.

Personal data protection master plan announced to support trust-based AI innovation
South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission on Thursday announced a third basic master plan for personal data protection for 2027 to 2029 as a joint agenda item with relevant ministries at an economic ministers\' meeting. The plan sets out a vision of a trusted data environment and an AI society. It includes four strategies and 12 tasks, including redesigning rules for AI, strengthening prevention-focused protections, upgrading policy and expanding remedies and rights safeguards.

PIPC discusses ways to expand use of regional AI data
South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission visited Gwangju Techno Park and the Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Project Group on Wednesday and held a meeting with local companies, institutions and researchers in AI medical and healthcare fields in the Jeonnam-Gwangju region. Participants proposed simplifying procedures for combining and processing pseudonymised data, establishing a new support centre and expanding consulting for local organisations. Chairperson Song Kyung-hee said the commission would support innovation while securing public trust in privacy protection.
