Kraken launches regulated spot crypto margin trading in US
Kraken has launched a spot cryptocurrency margin trading service for U.S. retail users that is regulated by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The Block reported that it has been difficult for U.S. retail users to access such products within a regulated environment. Kraken said users can trade with up to 10 times leverage using their crypto holdings as collateral without directly selling assets. The launch followed Payward’s completion of its acquisition of Bitnomial.

Kraken parent Payward applies to U.S. OCC for national trust charter
Kraken parent company Payward has applied to the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for a national trust company charter, The Block reported on Thursday. The application aims to establish Payward National Trust Company. Payward said it plans to offer bank-level, regulated digital asset custody and trust services to institutional and retail clients through the new entity, using existing infrastructure, risk management, compliance programmes and regulated affiliates.

Kraken parent Payward to buy Hong Kong stablecoin payments firm Reap for $600 million
Payward, the parent of cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, will acquire Hong Kong-based stablecoin payments company Reap Technologies for $600 million, Bloomberg News reported on May 7. The purchase price will be paid in cash and stock. As part of the transaction, Payward will issue new shares valuing the company at $20 billion. Reap supports cross-border payments between businesses using stablecoins and has built infrastructure targeting Asian markets.
