Bitfinex BTC perpetual futures briefly jump above $150,000 on thin liquidity

Bitcoin perpetual futures on Bitfinex briefly surged above $150,000, reaching $153,960 while spot bitcoin traded around $85,000. The spike quickly reversed within seconds and did not occur in the spot market, with Bitfinex’s composite spot index remaining stable. Market participants pointed to a chain of liquidations and thin order books. Data showed 117,116 leveraged positions were liquidated in 24 hours, with short liquidations dominating.

Bitcoin OTC holdings fall to 123,000 BTC, down 75 percent from 2021 peak

Bitcoin held by over-the-counter (OTC) desks has fallen to about 123,000 BTC, roughly one-quarter of the level seen in September 2021. CoinPost reported that on-chain analyst Darkfost said reserves in known OTC desk addresses have dropped to a past low. CryptoQuant data show holdings were about 500,000 BTC in September 2021. Analysts cited reduced readily available off-exchange supply, possible shifts toward long-term holding, broader distribution of ownership and changes in how large investors trade.

U.S. SEC opens path to 24-hour trading in tokenised stocks; Michael Saylor calls it a major breakthrough

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has unveiled a temporary regulatory framework allowing secondary market trading of tokenised U.S. stocks. The framework permits trading through tokenised stock vendors that meet certain conditions and allows use of automated market maker liquidity pools. It also requires underlying smart contracts to be public, auditable and run on a public, permissionless distributed ledger. Strategy chairman Michael Saylor called the move a major breakthrough and highlighted 24-hour on-chain trading.
