German sovereign AI model Kolibri unveiled with 78.1 billion parameters

German AI startup Aleph Alpha has unveiled Kolibri, a new language model aimed at tightly regulated fields such as public administration, industry and aerospace. The model uses a mixture-of-experts structure with 78.1 billion parameters, activating about 3.46 billion when processing tokens, and supports English and German with a maximum 1 million-token context. The company said it follows a “sovereign AI” strategy and released weights and config files on Hugging Face under an Apache 2.0 license.

South Korean AI chip firms look to expand \'sovereign AI\' on AMD open ecosystem after Lisa Su meeting

AMD Chief Executive Lisa Su met South Korean AI chip companies to expand cooperation based on an open AI computing ecosystem. South Korea’s science ministry and AMD held a roundtable in Seoul to discuss building a heterogeneous computing ecosystem and combining AMD CPUs and GPUs with locally made AI chips. Officials and executives said demand is shifting toward inference, increasing interest in mixing GPUs and NPUs. The government plans large-scale reference projects to validate full-stack systems.

Red Hat, IBM fix over 400 previously unknown open-source flaws via Lightwell

Red Hat and IBM said on Tuesday they found and fixed more than 400 previously unknown vulnerabilities in Java libraries through Lightwell, a security infrastructure they provide to deliver safer open-source software. They also backported the fixes so they can be applied to earlier versions. Red Hat said the effort shows long-used codebases need continuous management as threat environments change. The companies also launched Lightwell Clearinghouse for customer requests.
