BMW iX5 to launch this summer with 144 kWh battery
BMW plans to equip its iX5 electric SUV, due to launch this summer, with a 144 kWh battery. The usable capacity for the U.S. iX5 xDrive60 is set at 144 kWh, while the European model is about 141 kWh, making it BMW’s largest battery among current EVs. BMW has not disclosed official range. The company is also updating suspension and using cell-to-pack technology, while testing in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

BMW plans to revive its entry-level hatchback 1 Series as an electric vehicle for launch in 2028, aiming to attract younger consumers with a lower-priced model while maintaining its premium brand image. The next-generation 1 Series is expected to come in electric and hybrid versions and use the Neue Klasse platform while retaining the hatchback shape. It is likely to feature new digital interiors, 800-volt architecture and a single rear motor to support price competitiveness.

Infineon aims to reshape automotive chip ecosystem with RISC-V
Infineon Technologies is restructuring its automotive microcontroller business around a RISC-V-based MCU lineup, moving away from ARM-based designs. The company said adopting an open standard instruction set will strengthen OEM-led development and reduce supply-chain dependence risks. It unveiled a new AURIX RISC-V roadmap in Seoul, spanning entry-level to high-performance applications, alongside existing AURIX TC, TRAVEO and PSOC portfolios. Executives highlighted modular ISA benefits, safety and security, scalability, virtual prototyping and partnerships to speed customers’ time to market.
