Demand spreads for integrated automotive SoCs combining driving and cockpit functions

Demand is rising for high-performance automotive system-on-chip processors used in domain controllers that handle driver assistance and cockpit functions. As automakers consolidate function-specific electronic control units into domain controllers and central computers, each chip must process more computing workloads. Qualcomm and Nvidia are expanding in a market long led by Renesas and NXP. Korean Tier 1 suppliers are weighing partnerships and in-house chip design as centralised architectures spread.

Arm unveils new products to unify phones, robots and servers

Arm is accelerating efforts to tie smartphones, robots and data centres into a single computing platform. At a Sept. 7 media briefing, it unveiled an AI computing portfolio that includes CSS for Mobile 2, Arm Total Design for Physical AI and the Neoverse CSS-N4 for data centres. Arm said agentic AI is driving higher CPU loads. It also outlined performance gains in its C2 CPU cluster and Mali G2 GPUs, and gave projections for physical AI and data centre adoption.

Subsidies vs tax credits put South Korea chip support at crossroads

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are reviewing investments worth hundreds of trillions of won in semiconductor clusters in the Honam and Chungcheong regions, accelerating debate over how the government should support the industry. The key issue is whether to rely on tax credits for fab construction or shift to direct cash subsidies like rival countries. The government is also pursuing a regional balance strategy, with a semiconductor special law due to take effect in August.
