Huawei unveils 7.2 Tbps NPO, targets lead in AI network optics standards
Huawei is pushing standardisation of near-packaged optics, or NPO, for AI networks. The company is positioning NPO as a replacement for detachable optical modules and as an alternative to co-packaged optics, or CPO, citing CPO’s cost and maintenance burden. Huawei unveiled a 7.2-terabit-per-second NPO module at the China International Optoelectronic Exposition in Shenzhen. It plans to use the module in next-generation SuperPOD AI systems.

SK AX partners with Korea Electric Power Engineering & Construction on AX in power and energy industry
SK AX said on July 2 it signed a memorandum of understanding with Korea Electric Power Engineering & Construction at SK U Tower in Seongnam, Gyeonggi province, to cooperate on AX in the power generation and energy industry. KEPCO E&C is pursuing AX innovation to respond to changes in future energy businesses such as SMRs and renewable energy. The two companies plan to roll out AX initiatives from back-office functions to core areas including power plant design and operations.

SK AX says it will lead agentic enterprise era, absorb tacit knowledge with AI
SK AX held the IMAGINE AX 2026 conference in Seoul on June 16 and shared AI transformation cases across manufacturing, finance, telecommunications, retail and services. Chief executive Kim Wanjong said corporate competitiveness comes from companywide optimisation through AI to create new growth value, and that performance gaps are already emerging. Executives outlined “Being AX” capabilities and introduced the AXgenticWire NPO platform to connect agents, orchestrate collaboration and control security, quality variation and costs.
