Google Chrome to update every two weeks as AI reshapes security landscape

Google has shortened Chrome’s major update cycle to two weeks from four, applying the new schedule with the release of Chrome 153 for desktop, Android and iOS. The company said the change is aimed at speeding security responses as AI-era threats evolve and patches grow in scale. The shorter cycle will deliver fixes, features and performance improvements more frequently and may help narrow the “N-day” gap between code changes and user delivery.

AI-enabled consumer electronics are moving quickly into daily life, fuelling backlash over privacy as devices such as TVs with background recording, earbuds that offer call recording and smart glasses that can film what wearers see become commonplace. Mozilla Foundation communications director Lauren Hendry Parsons warned of “surveillance chic” and said privacy-by-design must protect bystanders as well as buyers. Major security incidents in the crypto sector in recent months have come not from smart contract flaws but from more sophisticated tactics such as fake identities and AI-generated scams, CoinDesk reported, citing Solana Foundation chief information security officer Michael Coates. Coates said such weaknesses are likely to drive the next wave of blockchain security threats. He warned AI and deepfakes will intensify social engineering attacks, including large-scale spoofing calls.
