Microsoft releases Agent Lightning v1.0 agent reinforcement learning framework
Microsoft has released its agent reinforcement learning framework, Agent Lightning v1.0, on GitHub. The framework centers on a production harness that handles context building, tool execution and the agent-environment interaction loop, while the training engine observes only LLM Q&A logs. Microsoft said it used 6,000 training examples to train a Qwen3.5-9B model and raised its SWE-Bench Verified score to 56.4 from 41.8. Researchers cited benefits and cautioned about reward design and infrastructure needs.

AWS to acquire DuckLabs, expand embedded analytics with DuckDB
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is acquiring DuckLabs, the developer of the open-source analytics database DuckDB. SiliconANGLE reported on Aug. 26 that the deal could be completed as soon as next month. After the acquisition, the DuckLabs team will work with AWS to expand AWS and DuckDB data service capabilities globally. The non-profit DuckDB Foundation will continue to run the project.

Motif\'s Motif 3 scores 47 on AAII, ranks 9th globally and 1st in South Korea
Motif Technologies said its in-house AI foundation model Motif 3 scored 47 on the Artificial Analysis Aggregate Intelligence Index (AAII), the highest among models from South Korean companies. It said the model ranks ninth among global large language models and fourth among open-weight models. The company released the model, training code and related materials as open source on Hugging Face under the MIT license.
