ELS fines cut to 600 billion won after local elections, financial policy in focus
With the June 3 local elections over, attention in South Korea’s financial sector is shifting back to financial authorities and the National Assembly. Issues that lost traction during the campaign, including governance reform at financial holding firms, digital asset regulation, loan rules for non-resident single-homeowners and a compensation liability system for voice phishing, may return to the agenda in the second half. Regulators have also adjusted ELS sanctions and stepped up work on consumer protection and AI security threats.

KakaoBank adds self-employed collateral loan to Naver Pay loan comparison
KakaoBank is expanding access channels for loans to sole proprietors through a partnership with Naver Pay. Self-employed customers will be able to check and apply for KakaoBank’s real estate collateral loan for sole proprietors through Naver Pay’s loan comparison service. KakaoBank said this is the first time its loan products have joined the platform. The service initially covers apartment and officetel collateral loans and plans to add collective commercial property.

Hana Financial expands Hana Money platform to broaden everyday finance services
Hana Financial Group said three companies, including Hana Insurance, Finc and GLN International, have newly joined its flagship everyday finance platform Hana Money. With the additions, the app expands beyond point accumulation and Travelog free currency exchange to offer services such as currency exchange, payments, investment, insurance and asset management. The group expects stronger service links and synergy as participating affiliates rise to nine.
