Former FTC chair Lina Khan says AI regulation possible under existing laws without new legislation
Former U.S. Federal Trade Commission chair Lina Khan argued regulators do not need to wait for a new legal framework to crack down on AI companies, saying existing consumer protection and competition laws can be used. She said releasing unverified AI models or agents could be sanctionable, and providing services without adequate measures to detect and block defective agents may be deemed unfair or deceptive. She also flagged possible competition and data-collection issues.
