LG Uplus steps up overseas membership benefits, ties up with global telcos
LG Uplus is expanding its membership benefits overseas and plans to launch a service this year offering shopping, tourism and transport discounts at travel destinations through partnerships with global telecom operators. It has joined the Wonderjoy Travel Alliance and completed a pilot programme in Japan. During the pilot, more than 10,000 coupons were downloaded and nine out of 10 users redeemed Don Quijote and Lawson discounts. The company plans an app-based service and will consider links to travel-related services.

Japan stablecoin issuer JPYC raises total 6 billion yen in Series B extension round
Japanese stablecoin issuer JPYC has raised total investment of 6 billion yen ($38 million) in a Series B extension round. The company plans to use the funds to expand its finance and Web3 ecosystem and increase adoption of its yen-pegged stablecoin, JPYC. Logistics company AZ-COM Maruwa invested 1 billion yen in the round. AZ-COM Maruwa plans to pay fees and wages in JPYC to about 2,300 partners and sole proprietors.

JCB partners with Circle to test stablecoin payments in Japan
JCB is partnering with Circle to examine the feasibility of cross-border payments using USDC and its potential use at merchants in Japan. The companies will first explore using USDC for internal cross-border fund transfers through a proof of concept. They will also pursue stablecoin payments at local merchants by overseas visitors to Japan and review technology supporting interoperability across multiple blockchain networks. They did not disclose a commercialization timeline.
