Kakao Mobility CEO Ryu says autonomous driving requires redesigning urban infrastructure
Kakao Mobility has set out a direction for commercialising autonomous driving by expanding services tailored to the urban environment. Chief Executive Ryu Geung-seon said the focus should move beyond improving driving technology to considering how it becomes part of everyday mobility. He said commercialisation requires completed services in citizens’ daily lives and coordinated, city-scale operations, alongside changes in urban design and social infrastructure.

South Korea to speed up opening of public data for AI training
South Korea will bring forward by 1 year the opening of its \'AI and high-value public data Top 100\' datasets, aiming to complete the project by 2027. The government will also open 37 types of public data and works previously provided to select teams developing proprietary AI foundation models so that all AI companies can use them. It said it has opened 267 high-quality public datasets since 2015, creating 3,625 private-sector services.

Jiran Jigyo Data joins transportation card synthetic data release project
Jiran Jigyo Data, a data protection company, said on Feb. 12 it participated in the “Transportation Card Synthetic Data Release Project” promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Korea Transportation Safety Authority and the National Information Society Agency. The project uses synthetic data technology to open transportation card usage records to support improvements in public and private transit services and help shape urban transport policy. The company said it built synthetic data that maintains statistical characteristics while removing identifiable information.
