Jiran Jigyo Data, a data protection company, said on Feb. 12 it participated in the “Transportation Card Synthetic Data Release Project” promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) and the National Information Society Agency (NIA). It said it carried out a project to build an open synthetic-data system.

The project is a case of releasing transportation card usage-history data using synthetic data technology. It focuses on supporting improvements in public and private mass transit services and establishing urban transport policies, while strengthening the foundation for data use at the national level.

Jiran Jigyo Data said it built high-quality synthetic data to block at source the risk of personal data leakage in the data being released. It said the data maintains the statistical characteristics of the original data while excluding personally identifiable information, accurately reflecting actual transportation usage patterns and improving the reliability of analysis.

Chief Executive Byung-wan Yoo (유병완) said, “It is meaningful to have completed the project to build synthetic data for release and contribute to strengthening the foundation for public data use.” He said, “We will continue to contribute to the development of the national data industry based on AI-based data protection technology that covers structured and unstructured data.”
