Big Tech expands territory beyond payments into financial infrastructure

Fintech and Big Tech firms are expanding financial services beyond payments and transfers into identity verification, offline payments, venture capital and corporate finance. Toss, Kakao Pay and Naver Pay can use a government network to verify resident registration cards, strengthening non-face-to-face checks and fraud prevention. Naver Pay launched Npay Startup with the Financial Supervisory Service. Kakao Pay Securities secured an investment dealing licence. Financial groups are revamping second-half strategies as household lending rises and regulators review IT controls and network separation rules.

KB Financial Group, KOSMES to support industrial safety infrastructure for 950 SMEs

KB Financial Group will work with the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency to support about 950 small and medium-sized firms with workplace improvements, safety supplies and safety training. KB Financial said on July 13 it is backing improvements in working environments and the building of safety management systems through the industrial safety infrastructure support programme. This year, the partners selected 50 suppliers and linked them to beneficiary firms, offering tailored solutions by industry and work conditions.

LG Energy Solution, KOSMES step up cooperation on K-battery ecosystem

LG Energy Solution has teamed up with the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency to strengthen South Korea\'s battery supply chain. The two organisations signed a memorandum of understanding on June 24 at LG Energy Solution\'s Daejeon Technical Research Institute. The agreement follows a K-battery open innovation programme jointly promoted in May and aims to bolster competitiveness across the battery ecosystem and expand cooperation between large companies and smaller firms.
