Chinese-made humanoid robot appears at parliament audit; Bae says physical AI core is software
A Chinese-made humanoid robot appeared at a South Korean parliamentary audit and danced during a demonstration. Deputy Prime Minister and Science Minister Bae Kyung-hoon said the core of physical AI competitiveness lies in AI software capabilities such as data and robot foundation models. Lawmaker Lee Jung-heon cited China’s large number of humanoid firms, investment and patent shares, and raised concerns about reliance on Chinese robots in public research sites.

UST expands deep-tech student startup cooperation with seven national research institutes
University of Science and Technology (UST) said it signed a joint agreement with seven national research institutes to promote student startups based on public technology. The deal follows an earlier agreement with five institutes, bringing participating institutes to 12. The partners plan to build a professor-student startup model spanning technology transfer and equity contributions, and to provide mentoring, education, equipment and funding support. UST also cited rule changes and startup programs to strengthen support.

Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials registers digital twin-based autonomous manufacturing technology as DTC testbed
The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials said it has registered its digital twin-based autonomous manufacturing technology as an official testbed with the U.S. Digital Twin Consortium. The testbed targets roll-to-roll equipment used to manufacture secondary battery electrodes. It links physical manufacturing facilities with a digital twin in real time and uses multiple AI agents to handle data collection, preprocessing, modeling, control and maintenance in a closed-loop system.
