High-precision map data export could cause up to 197 trillion won loss; fair competition must come first
An analysis raised the possibility that exporting high-precision map data overseas could cause up to 197.4 trillion won in cumulative costs from 2026 to 2035, with additional annual royalty outflows not included in that total. It said costs would accelerate after 2029 due to growing industry damage and overseas leakage. Scholars and industry officials said fair competition conditions between foreign and domestic firms, including domestic server installation, should be ensured before allowing any export.

MSIT says Korean researchers step up Horizon Europe participation
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT held a meeting in Seoul on Jan. 29 for domestic researchers participating in Horizon Europe. South Korea joined the EU programme as an associate country last year, the first in Asia, allowing Korean researchers to join projects on equal terms and secure funding. The meeting reviewed experiences and details from six of seven selected projects and discussed ways to promote participation, including projects in food and agriculture and in standards development.

Sena Technology, Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology launch construction site wireless communications collaboration model project
Sena Technology will begin a full-scale demonstration research project with the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology to address communication blind spots at construction sites and innovate safety systems. The partners signed a contract to study a collaboration efficiency model using wireless communications. The project aims to apply Sena’s Mesh Intercom and build a demonstration-based smart safety management and collaboration model by year-end.
