UST expands deep-tech student startup cooperation with seven national research institutes
University of Science and Technology (UST) said it signed a joint agreement with seven national research institutes to promote student startups based on public technology. The deal follows an earlier agreement with five institutes, bringing participating institutes to 12. The partners plan to build a professor-student startup model spanning technology transfer and equity contributions, and to provide mentoring, education, equipment and funding support. UST also cited rule changes and startup programs to strengthen support.

MSIT to launch AI platform for compound disaster response with MOIS and MOLIT
South Korea will begin developing an AI platform to predict and respond to disasters at large mixed-use facilities such as supertall buildings linked to underground shopping areas and subways. The Ministry of Science and ICT said it will work with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The three-year project will run from 2026 to 2028 with a total investment of 25.5 billion won.

High-precision map data export could cause up to 197 trillion won loss; fair competition must come first
An analysis raised the possibility that exporting high-precision map data overseas could cause up to 197.4 trillion won in cumulative costs from 2026 to 2035, with additional annual royalty outflows not included in that total. It said costs would accelerate after 2029 due to growing industry damage and overseas leakage. Scholars and industry officials said fair competition conditions between foreign and domestic firms, including domestic server installation, should be ensured before allowing any export.
