New Kounuri type allows free use for AI training
South Korea will revise its Kounuri public works licensing system so public-sector copyrighted works can be used more widely as data for AI training. The culture ministry and the science ministry announced measures including a new “Type 0” that allows commercial use and modification with no requirement to cite sources. The government will also introduce an “AI type” for AI training use, consider incentives for public agencies, and pursue legal changes to expand access.

Government drives AX across all sectors, adds AI category to Public Nuri
South Korea\'s government will pour available resources into a nationwide AX push and set up new Public Nuri categories to allow public works held by the state and public institutions to be used freely for AI training without legal uncertainty. It discussed a second national R&D investment strategy for 2026 to 2030 and a one-stop support plan for government AX projects backed by a 2.4 trillion won budget across 33 bodies.

Neutune joins CES 2026 to showcase Korean traditional music-focused AI research
AI music startup Neutune will attend CES 2026 in Las Vegas from Jan. 6 to 9 to present AI research results and services tailored to Korean traditional music. The CES appearance is tied to a project led by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Culture Information Service Agency. The initiative aims to build Korean-style cultural AI training data and promote its use globally.
