AI hacking hits Japan as Takaichi government shifts to preemptive surveillance

A string of AI-enabled cyberattacks in Japan, hitting firms from securities companies to delivery operators, is fuelling a sense of crisis. The government said an official power and gas trading information website was hacked and cited other incidents involving alleged data disclosures and an emergency response to a PHP vulnerability. Researchers counted at least 81 reported attacks since July. Japan is shifting from post-incident responses to monitoring telecom traffic to prevent threats in advance.
