Lee Jae Myung government wraps up second-phase AI appointments with industry trio
A new lineup to lead the Lee Jae Myung government\'s AI strategy has been formed, with a focus on officials from the IT industry. Lee Hae-min was appointed senior secretary for AI future planning after the post had been vacant for about four months, and Ha Jung-woo was named vice chairman of the National AI Strategy Committee. They join Deputy Prime Minister and science minister Bae Kyung-hoon in steering national AI strategy and policy.

South Korea appoints lawmaker Lee Hae-min as new AI senior secretary, reshuffling policy lineup
South Korea\'s presidential office on Aug. 30 appointed Cho Kuk Innovation Party lawmaker Lee Hae-min as its new senior secretary for AI future planning, filling a vacancy left by Ha Jung-woo\'s resignation. Lee has worked as a product manager at Google Korea and Google\'s U.S. headquarters and later served as chief product officer at data firm OpenSurvey. The office also named Ha as senior vice chair of the National AI Strategy Committee.

NIA holds AI innovation forum with public institutions relocated to Daegu
South Korea\'s National Information Society Agency (NIA) held an AI innovation forum on Jan. 28 with nine public institutions relocated to Daegu, the agency said on Jan. 29. The event followed a memorandum of understanding signed on Dec. 18 to promote AI use among the institutions. Attendees shared AI strategies, discussed cooperation to introduce and expand AI in the public sector, and reviewed NIA\'s AI Supporters programme and related plans.
