XRPL tokenised assets expand; former Ripple CTO says RWA, stablecoins are growth pillars

Former Ripple Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz said the role of the XRP Ledger (XRPL) is expanding from a payment-focused blockchain into tokenised financial infrastructure. He said XRPL now supports stablecoins, tokenised real-world assets and other issued assets. XRP community figure BankXRP cited rising indicators such as RWA market value and daily transactions, and said RippleUSD is operating on more than 40 blockchains. Data from rwa.xyz also showed increases in asset values, holders and tokenised assets.

Institutional bitcoin holdings fall 17% in Q1, banks quadruple from year ago

Institutional investors\' bitcoin holdings via U.S. spot exchange-traded funds fell sharply in the first quarter of 2026, according to a CoinShares analysis of 13F filings cited by CoinPost. Holdings dropped 17% to 261,000 BTC from 313,000 BTC, while assets under management fell 35% to $17.8 billion. Hedge funds and broker-dealers drove most selling. Banks were net buyers, lifting holdings to 15,200 BTC, up 339% from a year earlier.

Samsung Electronics management and union reach tentative wage deal, halt general strike

Samsung Electronics and its labour union signed a tentative agreement on 2026 wage talks late on May 20, suspending a planned 18-day general strike from May 21 to June 7. The deal follows renewed talks after failed mediation and direct government involvement. Final approval depends on a union membership vote from May 22 to May 27. The agreement includes a new DS division special performance bonus scheme and an average wage increase of 6.2 percent.
