Memory big two poised for Q1 earnings surprise, step up business overhaul
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are expected to post first-quarter results above market expectations, as rising DRAM and NAND prices lift profits. Brokerages estimate Samsung’s operating profit at 41.3 trillion to 45.3 trillion won, and SK Hynix’s at 36.9 trillion to 39.4 trillion won. Samsung is linking foundry and HBM4 advances, while SK Hynix is preparing a U.S. ADR listing and discussing long-term supply contracts.

KAIST develops \'Soulmate\' ultra-personalised LLM accelerator
KAIST said on March 17 that a research team led by Yoo Hoe-jun (유회준), a professor at its Graduate School of AI Semiconductor, developed a personalised large language model (LLM) accelerator called \'Soulmate\' that evolves to match user characteristics. The on-device AI chip implements RAG and LoRA within the semiconductor, enabling 0.2-second responses while learning in real time. It also cuts power use and keeps personal data on the device.

Rebellion proves Rebel Quad capabilities at ISSCC
AI chip company Rebellion unveiled its second-generation product, Rebel Quad, at ISSCC 2026 in the United States. The company presented a paper on the Rebel Quad architecture and conducted a real-time live demonstration. Rebel Quad is a next-generation AI chip using a chiplet process that links four chiplets to overcome a critical limit of 858 sq mm. Rebellion said the design improves yields and production efficiency.
