S&P says foundries can withstand AI investment slowdown, Asia-Pacific semiconductors more defensive

Asia-Pacific semiconductor foundries can absorb a bigger shock than other tech hardware segments even if AI investment slows, an S&P Global Ratings analysis showed. S&P assessed four core sectors under downside scenarios, including hyperscalers cutting capex and AI project delays caused by infrastructure bottlenecks. It ranked foundries as the most resilient, citing business models and advanced-process competitiveness. Memory makers could be more sensitive to a faster-than-expected peak in AI demand, it said.

OpenAI\'s GPT-6 Astra excels in 3D and gaming but falters in writing
