Nvidia\'s Groq acquisition sends message to AI data center market
Nvidia’s effective $20 billion acquisition of AI inference chip startup Groq may have implications beyond the AI chip market, with analysts highlighting cooling technology and high-performance memory as key issues. UncoverAlpha lists five motives, including energy, HBM, CoWoS packaging, liquid-cooling data center bottlenecks and competition. Groq’s LPU does not require liquid cooling or HBM, potentially easing supply-chain constraints. Groq chips also use embedded SRAM and can be made on older nodes.
