Germany to phase out oil, gas and coal by 2045, releases green roadmap
The German government has released a national roadmap to reduce reliance on fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas, aiming to phase out their use in the energy system while achieving climate neutrality by 2045. It is the first time Germany has made a fossil-fuel exit an explicit national policy goal. The plan focuses on expanding renewables and electrifying transport, heating and industry, while cutting methane emissions and converting gas power to climate-neutral fuels over time.
