AI computing power shortage deepens, squeezing AI startups

Some startups are said to be paying higher costs to access GPU servers. Autoscience raises $14 million seed round to develop AI models with AI
Autoscience, a developer of automated AI, has raised $14 million in a seed funding round led by General Catalyst, Axios reported on March 19 local time. Toyota Ventures, Perplexity Fund and M13 Ventures also participated. The company is developing a system in which AI automatically builds other AI models. Axios said it is drawing attention because AI could replace the role of AI engineers.

Standard Kernel raises $20 million seed to automatically optimise GPU performance with AI
AI-based GPU software optimisation startup Standard Kernel has raised $20 million in seed funding. VentureBeat reported that Jump Capital led the round, with participation from General Catalyst, Felicis, Cowboy Ventures, Link Ventures, Essence VC, CoreWeave and Ericsson Ventures. The company says it automatically generates specialised GPU kernels using AI to help firms optimise GPU use. It plans to use the funds to speed development of an autonomous kernel-generation platform and adaptive system software.
