AI-based GPU software optimisation startup Standard Kernel has raised $20 million in seed funding.

VentureBeat recently reported that Jump Capital led the investment, with participation from General Catalyst, Felicis, Cowboy Ventures, Link Ventures, Essence VC, CoreWeave and Ericsson Ventures.

Standard Kernel helps companies optimise their use of GPUs by automatically generating specialised GPU kernels using AI.

The company says it optimises code at the instruction level to match specific workloads and hardware environments instead of using general-purpose libraries. VentureBeat reported that in partner testing, Standard Kernel boosted performance by 80 percent to as much as 4 times, based on end-to-end workloads run on Nvidia H100 GPUs.

Standard Kernel will use the funds to accelerate development of its autonomous kernel-generation platform. It also plans to develop adaptive system software that evolves to match new models and hardware.
