Korean apps\' overseas downloads hit 1.8 billion, more than 2.5 times domestic
Mobile applications developed in South Korea recorded 1.8 billion downloads overseas last year, more than 2.5 times the 730 million downloads at home, Google Korea said, citing a Public First report. India led overseas downloads, followed by Indonesia and Brazil. The report also put South Korea first globally in active developers in 2025. It estimated Google Play and Android generated $69 billion in revenue for Korean app publishers and the economy in 2025.

GCRB launches sixth panel, speeds shift of game ratings to private sector
The Game Culture Foundation has formed the sixth Games Content Rating Board (GCRB) panel and appointed Anyang University professor Seung-hoon Lee as chair. The new panel expands recommending bodies from eight to 16 and increases the share of experts in games, law and consumer protection, while lowering the average age to 44 from 54. GCRB plans a second-stage transfer of game ratings to the private sector in the second half, introducing mobile platforms and simplified reviews.

GRAC launches 2026 illegal game report reward program, pays up to 600,000 won a month
The Game Rating and Administration Committee said it held the first 2026 review of reports on illegal game content on March 12 to prevent user harm and improve enforcement against distribution and illegal currency exchange. It formed a review panel including National Police Agency officials and experts from related institutions. Reporters can file submissions with evidence through the committee’s website. Rewards can reach 500,000 won per case, capped at 600,000 won per month and 3,000,000 won per year.
