Ryu Je-myeong says industry-academia-research cooperation essential to boost physical AI competitiveness
Ryu Je-myeong (류제명), second vice minister of South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT, attended the Physical AI Tech Day event in Seoul on Tuesday and stressed the importance of cooperation among industry, academia and research institutions. The event, themed \"Intelligence into Action,\" brings together experts to share trends and development directions in physical AI. Ryu also toured exhibits, including AI semiconductors, factory optimisation and collaborative robots and humanoids.

FriendlyAI offers free API access to K-EXAONE model after top 1st evaluation
FriendlyAI said on Jan. 20 it will provide the K-EXAONE 236B foundation model, developed by an LG AI Research consortium, for free in API form through Jan. 28. The company said K-EXAONE ranked first in a first-round performance evaluation. Developers can integrate or test the model through FriendlyAI’s serverless API without separate GPU configuration or complex infrastructure. FriendlyAI said the offer is aimed at helping users compare and switch from Qwen3 235B or closed models.

Generative AI Startup Association to hold Korea-Japan AI startup meetup day in Tokyo
The Generative AI Startup Association will hold a Korea-Japan AI Startup Meetup Day on Jan. 20 at Tokyo Innovation Base in Tokyo, with 8 AI startups participating. Backed by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the event is co-hosted with the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency’s Tokyo office and Japan’s Z Venture Capital. Speakers will address AI transformation and startup roles, and SnapTag will present its K-Safe public API project.
