BYD to launch first solid-state battery EV in 2027

BYD plans to launch its first electric vehicle equipped with a solid-state battery in 2027. Stella Li, the company’s executive vice president, said BYD is in a leading position in developing and preparing to commercialise the technology. The rollout in 2027 does not mean immediate mass production, as FinDreams aims for limited output in 2027 and expansion to mass production by 2030. BYD is also improving charging speed for existing batteries.

DeepSeek taps first CFO ahead of IPO to step up low-cost AI push

DeepSeek is moving to appoint its first chief financial officer ahead of an initial public offering, as it accelerates fundraising and listing preparations. It is considering Yen Wen-tao of GL Ventures, part of Hillhouse Investment, for the role. DeepSeek has widened market share with low-cost, high-performance models but needs significant funding for chips, computing infrastructure and talent. It has selected underwriters including CITIC Securities and is said to be targeting Shanghai’s STAR Market, alongside pre-IPO fundraising.

Volkswagen, BYD target long range as Tesla Roadster set for Oct. 1 reveal

Competition in the electric vehicle industry is heating up again around long-range driving, ultra-fast charging and advanced autonomous driving. Volkswagen highlighted a long-range EV concept targeting up to 1,000 miles by maximising efficiency rather than increasing battery capacity. BYD unveiled an electric semi-truck with about 600 km range that supports 1.5-megawatt “flash charging”. Tesla again set a Roadster reveal for Oct. 1, as questions persist over delays and real-world autonomous driving performance.
