LG Energy Solution to hold BIC 2026 battery technology contest

LG Energy Solution will hold its Battery Innovation Contest (BIC) 2026 to solicit research proposals from universities and research institutes from Oct. 29 to Dec. 6. The company said the program supports selected projects with research funding and joint work with in-house researchers. It expanded the number of designated topics to its largest ever, covering areas from materials to cells, BMS and AI. Around 50 projects have received support so far.

LG Energy Solution points to commercial viability of sulfur-based batteries

LG Energy Solution said it developed a high-capacity battery using sulfur as a cathode material by applying all-solid-state battery technology. The company said the approach blocks polysulfide dissolution seen in liquid electrolytes, securing about 1,500 mAh/g capacity and stable cycle life. It said the performance was demonstrated in both coin cells and pouch-type cells. The work was conducted with a University of Chicago research team and published in Nature Communications.
