OpenAI revises AI shopping strategy, shifts from instant checkout to in-app model

OpenAI is revising its AI shopping strategy after its Instant Checkout feature failed to deliver the expected impact, CNBC reported on March 20. The tool had aimed to let retailers such as Etsy, Walmart and Shopify sell directly through ChatGPT, but results were limited due to technical constraints and weak user experience. OpenAI is now encouraging retailers to build their own apps inside ChatGPT, shifting payments back to retailers\' websites.
