Microsoft has added a new shopping feature to Copilot, entering the AI-based e-commerce market in earnest, The Verge reported on Jan. 8.
With the update, when users search for a product, Copilot provides AI-recommended items along with a “Buy” button that supports direct payment inside the app.
If Copilot recommends a lamp for a bedside table, users can tap the “Buy” button, enter shipping and payment information, and complete the purchase without visiting a separate website. It is similar to the payment function in OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Microsoft will introduce the feature first in Copilot in the United States. It is running a pilot in cooperation with Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Ashley Furniture and some Etsy sellers. Payments are linked to PayPal, Stripe and Shopify.
