Bamishimwi seeks corrections for 33,869 cases of digital sex crime content in H1 2026
The Broadcasting Media Communications Deliberation Committee requested corrective action such as deletion and access blocking for 33,869 cases of digital sex crime content in the first half of 2026. Illegal filming materials accounted for 18,604 cases, while deepfake sex crime videos totalled 15,179. The committee also reported 18,634 cases of voluntary measures by operators before formal review, up about 97 percent from a year earlier.

Naver, Kakao, Google removed or blocked 141,000 illegal sexual exploitation posts last year
South Korea\'s Broadcasting and Media Communications Commission said domestic and foreign online service providers including Naver, Google and Kakao removed or blocked 140,996 cases of reported illegal filmed content last year out of 185,662 reports. Reports fell 17.7 percent from a year earlier and removals and blocks declined 22.2 percent. The commission said differences reflect duplicate reports and cases that were not illegal filmed content or had already been deleted.

Cross-government body launched to step up response to digital sex crimes
The Broadcasting Media and Communications Commission said on Monday it held a kickoff meeting for a cross-government consultative body on responding to digital sex crimes with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the National Police Agency and the Broadcasting Media and Communications Review Commission. The body is meant to cover prevention, investigations, blocking, and victim support. The agencies shared operating plans, discussed faster blocking and overseas illegal sites, and said the new chiefs-level forum will strengthen accountability and execution.
