Whole-of-government task force launched to support victims of digital sex crimes
The Broadcasting, Media and Communications Commission said on Tuesday it has launched a joint task force with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the National Police Agency to provide integrated support for victims of digital sex crimes. The eight-member unit, in force since April 30 under a prime minister’s directive, will analyse distribution channels and revenue structures, seek investigations, impose penalties and pursue rapid blocking and international cooperation.

Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission warns of frequent personal data theft on used goods apps
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission said on April 24 it published the \"2025 Online Damage Counseling Casebook\". The casebook selects 50 major cases from 4,181 consultations received last year by the Online Damage 365 Center. The commission said many reports involved personal data theft during job searches on used goods trading apps, leading to unauthorized sign-ups on dating apps and concerns the data could be misused for romance scams and other financial fraud.

Ko Kwang-heon nominee vows to restore consensus at media and communications watchdog
Ko Kwang-heon (고광헌), nominee to lead the Broadcast Media Communications Deliberation Committee, said he would revive the spirit of consensus and build a panel focused on communication. He said sanctions issued under former chief Ryu Hee-rim resulted in 30 straight court defeats because a minority made decisions after selecting agendas arbitrarily. Ko also pledged to address about 170,000 pending telecommunications cases and listed operating principles including minimal regulation and zero tolerance for digital sex crimes.
