The Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the Ministry of Education and the Broadcast Media Communications Commission on March 26 signed a memorandum of understanding at the Gajaeul Youth Center in Seoul on building a safe and inclusive AI and science-technology foundation and protecting youth.

The agreement was set up to jointly respond to new risks from the AI transition, including deepfake crimes using generative AI. The four agencies will cooperate on overhauling youth AI ethics and safety systems, supporting at-risk youth using AI, digital competency education and supporting the growth of women in science and technology and AI. They will also pursue efforts to minimise gender bias in AI and upgrade the response system for digital sex crimes.

Deputy Prime Minister Kyung-hoon Bae (배경훈) said related agencies would work together as one team to protect youth from new risks in the AI era and build a safe and inclusive AI ecosystem. Education Minister Kyo-jin Choi (최교진) said what is needed in the AI era is the capability to properly understand and use it responsibly, rather than the technology itself.
