Japan FSA sets up dedicated crypto and stablecoin unit, upgrades regulatory framework

Japan\'s Financial Services Agency will establish an independent unit dedicated to cryptocurrencies and stablecoins as it strengthens digital asset supervision. The agency will upgrade its existing counsellor-level office into a division and place it under the Asset Management and Insurance Bureau. It will also reorganise related innovation and digital payments planning functions while keeping the crypto monitoring office. The payments oversight structure will be upgraded separately, with transitional measures for older documents.
