Science ministry holds tribute ceremony for Korean science and technology merit awardees
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT held a tribute ceremony on Tuesday for science and technology merit awardees who contributed to national scientific and technological development. The ministry held the event at 3 p.m. at the Westin Josun Hotel in Seoul. It said 95 people have been honoured since the first designations in 2017 under a law on treatment and support for awardees. About 180 people attended, including awardees and families.

MSIT expands science and engineering graduate research living allowance scheme to 43 universities
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said on Tuesday it selected 8 additional universities to join its research living allowance support programme for science and engineering graduate students. The number of participating universities increases to 43 from 35, while the number of students guaranteed a monthly base amount rises to 52,000 from 47,000. The programme guarantees monthly payments above set base amounts by linking government support to student funding.

MSIT launches work on sixth basic plan for science and technology
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT held a kickoff meeting on Jan. 20 to begin drawing up the sixth basic plan for science and technology and a second mid- to long-term national R&D investment strategy. The basic plan is the top statutory plan under the Framework Act on Science and Technology, guiding annual implementation plans by central and local governments. The investment strategy sets five-year goals and directions for national R&D budget allocation and adjustment.
