MSIT steps up support for deep tech firms in R&D zones to expand globally
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Innopolis Foundation are stepping up support for deep tech companies in research and development zones seeking to expand overseas. They are holding events on May 26 and 28 to create cooperation opportunities with global pharmaceutical companies and investors under the Global Boost-up Project. South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT begins support for new projects under its 2026 R&D special zone fostering program. The 51.2 billion won package targets 174 companies in five special zones including Daejeon, Gwangju, Daegu, Busan and North Jeolla. The program focuses on full-cycle growth from demonstration and investment to global expansion, and prioritises fields such as AI, advanced bio, semiconductors and displays, advanced robotics and secondary batteries.

R&D special zones finalise five-year blueprint to advance into glocal innovation cluster
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT finalised its Fifth Comprehensive Plan for Fostering R&D Special Zones for 2026 to 2030 after deliberation and approval by the R&D Special Zones Committee. The statutory plan applies to all zones and sets a vision of a “glocal innovation cluster” linking regions and the world. It outlines three policy tasks and 10 sub-tasks, including support for deeptech startups, new funds, an AI-based commercialisation platform and a growth pathway across zones.
