Game companies move into hybrid casual segment
Hybrid casual games are emerging as a new growth engine in the mobile market as hyper casual titles face saturation and weaker profitability. The format keeps simple controls but adds collection, RPG and storyline elements, while combining in-app ads and in-app purchases. AppMagic data show in-app purchase revenue rose sharply over a year. Crit Ventures USA said on Feb. 20 it made a strategic investment in Meet48, a Web3-based fan economy platform. Meet48 is designed as a decentralised fandom platform built on blockchain and AI that lets fans participate in creating virtual idols and in management processes such as performances, broadcasts and communication. Users can receive exclusive ownership opportunities based on digital assets such as NFT goods and voting rights, and earn rewards for fandom activities.

Com2uS Crit Ventures makes 1 billion won seed investment in hybrid casual game developer Pep
Com2uS venture capital subsidiary Crit Ventures has made a 1 billion won seed investment in Pep, a hybrid casual game developer, it said on Thursday. Pep was founded last year by CEO Seok Kang and Chief Product Officer Cheolyong Kim. The company is developing Dig and Roll, which combines simple controls with repeatable play. Pep plans to use the funds for global service and follow-up development, and to build an in-house publishing system.
